So this is room 4057. I cannot even imagine what things are waiting for me inside. As an angel, I was assigned to this room to protect all the children here for a day from a demon called Lucifer. He was once my best friend. He turned into a real troublemaker one day, though. And I still don't know why. After 2 hours of studying, I have memorized all of the children's names and faces. I am taking notes on this class to make sure that I can review it later and report any other suspicious behavior ( besides Lucifer ) that is happening in room 4057. What is written below is a report on what happened on July 17, 2014 in room 4057.
9:03 - Eunice and Mala fight over the elevator buttons.
9:06 - Ted tells the students about an optional writing prompt for their morning pages.
9:07 - We sing "Happy Birthday" to Eunice. I sing too, but I don't want anybody to notice me so I turn invisible for the rest of the day.
9:08 - Students start morning pages for 17 minutes.
9:25 - Students end morning pages.
9:26 - Jason yawns.
9:26 - Tyler shares his morning pages based on the prompt and describes his state report.
9:27 - Anthony forgets what he was going to share.
9:28 - Victoria shares part of her memoir.
9:30 - Anthony shares his morning pages.
9:34 - Anthony talks to Robles while Ted talks to Claudia.
9:35 - Ted goes through emails to send invitations for Open House to parents.
9:39 - Ted shares Audrey's "King of the Hill " poem to the class.
9:39-9:40 Mala and Eunice have a staring contest. What is this about?
9:41 - Ted shares Justin's "Secret Civilization" poem.
9:42-9:55 Justin and Jason share their ethnography report.
10:00 - Mala mumbles something to herself. What is she saying? A code? A spell? I lean in closer to hear what she is saying and it turns out she is just reading her memoir draft to herself.
10:00 - Ted gives a mini-lesson:
When someone is talking, use a comma instead of a period.
Start a new paragraph when someone talks.
10:03 - Ted proves that you make a new paragraph after dialogue.
10:05 - Justin tells the class that you shouldn't put quotes in quotes. Ted agrees and gives his students an example:Joe said,"John said,'Bob said,"Hi."'"
10:10 - Ted shows the students a video on Akira's homepage.
10:15 - Kayanne and Nicholas fight over turning on the light. Why do they fight over something so unimportant as turning off a light?
10:16 - Matthew reads his chapter in his Collaborative Story Project.
10:20 - Ted opens the blinds and Andrew yells,"Ahhh! My eyes!"
10:21 - Ted gives a lesson by telling his students to slow down the action of one part of their memoir. Make a movie behind your eyelids. Maybe I'll try that.
10:29-10:45 Ted reads Barack Obama's memoir: Dreams from My Father.
10:47 - Ted reads his memoir with the slowing down.
10:50 - Students go to break.
10:55 - Robles buys chocolate chip cookies and Pepsi.
10:56 - Anthony steps on a filled water bottle on the ground which shoots the water out about 8 feet.
11:01 - Ted calls the students to come back inside.
After Break:
11:27- Isabella drops her lunchbox in the classroom. All the contents of the lunchbox fell out. I have a hunch who caused her to drop her lunchbox...
11:28 - Ted shares his opinions on Nancy Atwell. He says that when he reads her books, he feels like he is in her world. He asks if anyone else feels that way. Most of the class raises their hands.
11:30 - Ted tells us how to to make a movie behind our eyelids.
1. Close your eyes. Concentrate.
2. Imagine the scene you're going to write as if you're making a private movie in your mind. See and hear yourself and/or the characters in action in real time.
3. Open your eyes and try to capture on the page exactly what happened in your mental movie - the small details of sight and sound... and that's all I got to copy down.
11:40 - Students work on improving their memoirs.
11:53 - Nicholas raises his hand but Ted doesn't see it so I send brain waves to him, telling him to look up. He sees Nicholas's hand and goes to answer his question.
11:55 - Ted announces that there are only 5 min. left to finish improving memoirs.
12:05 - Justin shares part of his memoir and Ted starts singing " radioactive, radioactive"
12:06 - 12:19 - Matthew, Mala, Eunice, Jade, Isabella, Sophia, Kayanne, Audrey, Victoria, Tyler, Anthony, and Andrew share their memoirs to the class.
12:23 - Readers line up and leave.
12:25 - The rest of the students leave.
After The Students Leave:
After everyone leaves I reappear. "Lucifer. I know you're there!" I shout at the empty classroom.
"Oh, Amulet," POOF! Lucifer appears. "You always get me," he laughs evilly.
He strides around the classroom and, BOOM! CRASH!, sits on a desk and falls on his um... behind. "I don't think that you should have done that," I say.
Lucifer glares at me and picks up the desk and puts it back. I snap my fingers to magically transport us outside on the roof. I spread my wings and start to fly. He chases after me with his own wings. We battle in the sky. He darts at me at full speed! And then I...
